Married at Romsey Abbey – Hampshire Wedding Photographer

A Romsey Abbey ceremony is like something out of a TV screen – photographed by a Hampshire Wedding Photographer.

Romsey Abbey is dated to be over 1000 years old and stills holds the title of the largest parish church in the whole of Hampshire! As a Hampshire wedding photographer myself, I hadn’t photographed the Abbey before so this was a real treat!

Isabel & Curtis had their hearts set on Romsey Abbey after Isabel’s parents and grandparents, as well as other family members, all got married there! She said, ” It’s just the most stunning building and I think I’ve just always pictured my wedding being held there after growing up seeing pictures and videos of mum and dads wedding. Curtis and I both always said that we would want to be married in a Church so it was a no brainer!”

After getting ready separately in the morning, Curtis arrived at Romsey Abbey to greet their guests before the ceremony. Despite the nerves and anxious moments, you could see from the smile on his face, just how excited he was to marry his soul mate.

Once everyone had arrived and was seated, Curtis made his way to the front of the Abbey just as Isabel arrived in a vintage Beauford Tourer. It was easy to see, the two of them had been waiting for this day for a while and couldn’t wait to see each other!

After fluffing her wedding dress and adjusting her train, the bridesmaids were ready to start the procession ahead of Isabel and her dad.

Romsey Abbey has the most beautiful aisle to walk down. With the backdrop of incredible stain glassed windows, it truly is like stepping into a movie set!

After a stunning ceremony, they got to walk back down the aisle as husband and wife. The went straight into one of their top 5 moments of the day! The confetti!

The Reception at Kimbridge Barn

After enjoying a scenic drive from Romsey Abbey to Kimbridge Barn, just the two of them, they arrived in style ready for round two of confetti!

They said that Kimbridge Barn has always been a favourite place of their to go for coffee. But since they had the barn built in 2019 and started doing weddings, they always thought it would be a stunning place to have a reception!

Isabel said ” Where the Abbey was such a non negotiable, we wanted to make sure that the reception venue was close enough that guests didn’t have to travel too far. So that was another huge draw! It felt like the perfect size for the number of guests that we had. We loved that although there are 3 separate parts (barn, courtyard and boot room) they were all linked and close together so it didn’t feel like anyone had wondered off or was missing out. My brother has worked at Kimbridge before so we knew the team well. It felt like a home from home which was really important to us, as we wanted to feel as comfortable as possible on our wedding day.

Both of us hate being the centre of attention. So to be in a familiar setting with faces we recognised, eased our nerves. We also knew how much we wanted photos outdoors and Kimbridge just has such gorgeous surroundings!”

Their reception consisted of drinks and canapes in the sunshine whilst a steel band played in the background. Izzy & Curtis did indeed explore the grounds around Kimbridge and have some gorgeous photos to prove just that!

They then went on to enjoy a gorgeous meal served by Kimbridge Barn. As well as spending the late afternoon and evening laughing, dancing and eating copious amounts of pizza.

5 Favourite Bits From The Wedding Day

I asked Isabel & Curtis what their 5 favourite bits were from their wedding day, and this was their answer:

  • The confetti at the Abbey! That’s when it really sunk in that we had just got married!!! With the bells and everyone’s smiling faces!
  • The car journey from the Abbey to Kimbridge. Just the two of us, we both couldn’t stop smiling the nerves had gone and both feeling so in love!
  • The food! We still talk about the beef all the time!
  • The steel band! So many guests commented on how much they enjoyed them!
  • The last few songs! 2 songs where everyone was going crazy on the dancefloor. And then our private last dance – it honestly felt like we were living a scene from a movie!

Top Wedding Day Tip For Future Couples

“Find those moments to have just the two of you! It doesn’t have to be ‘stepping to the side to take it all in’ like the advice says online. You can find these moments throughout the day. From the car journey between venues, to a sweetheart table for your wedding breakfast and a last dance to really soak up the last few memories of the day!” – Isabel & Curtis
